CETACEAN WATCH INVERTEBRATES

Falklands Conservation is very pleased to accept any records of wildlife from the Falkland Islands. Our knowledge of most species is far from complete, and distribution of key species very patchy at best. Every piece of information collected can add to our understanding of the Islands’ ecosystem.

For general enquiries and to submit records mail to: info@falklandsconservation.com

We encourage volunteers to participate in our census work and in our occasional Islands-wide surveys. In October 2008 a Lady's Slipper Survey to find out more about the distribution of this endemic plant was launched.

We particularly encourage visiting experts in biological disciplines to contact us before their arrival, and to call at our offices in Stanley when they are in the Islands. We hold an extensive library on Falklands natural history and manage the Falklands National Herbarium. This is housed in the Archives Building and includes a reference collection of native plants. Access is by appointment only.

CETACEAN WATCH

This is the first attempt to systematically record sightings and monitor the resident populations cetaceans in the Falkland Islands. It relies totally on the support and dedication of volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this project and sharing your observations of whales and dolphins seen around the Islands’ coasts, obtain recording forms and further details in Cetacean Watch.

INVERTEBRATES

Insect hunting in the Falklands is a rewarding experience and with a little effort a surprising number of species can be found. Falklands Conservation is keen to support and encourage all those interested in studying and recording the insect life of the Islands.
