VISION AND MISSION

In partnership with government, industry and the global community, Falklands Conservation will engage and empower the people of the Falkland Islands to take action with us to conserve biodiversity and manage landscapes and seascapes for the benefit of nature and people.

Partnering with the local and international community to conserve the Falkland Islands’ natural environment.

What we do

We are the largest membership based conservation charity in the Islands, since 1979. We work on behalf of our members and in partnership with the local and international community to conserve the Falklands natural environment through community outreach, practical conservation research and delivery.

Find out more

We work in the following ways:

Community Involvement
Understand and represent the Falklands community in Falklands Conservation’s programmes, including the junior membership, the Watch Group.

Conservation Action
Effective conservation of habitats and species.

Conservation Ambition
Influence decisions within society for the benefit of the natural environment.

Conservation priorities
Strengthening bio-security and invasive species policies and procedures, ensuring best practice for offshore and onshore developments, terrestrial habitat restoration and enhancing marine management.

New Island

In 2020 Falklands Conservation merged with the New Island Conservation Trust, who had been careful custodians of New Island for many years. New Island is a site of excellence for nature conservation and research, and the running of this incredible island is now overseen by Falklands Conservation (incorporating the New Island Conservation Trust).

New Island

Whale Projects

The project aims to better understand sei and southern right whales in the Falkland Islands, critical to developing effective conservation and management of whale populations, and ensuring their continued recovery from the whaling era. Here you can view the 2020 video WHALES OF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS, produced alongside our research project.

  • On Saturday, Watch Group members joined Peaty Pals in teaching members of the community how to make tussac plant seed bombs. During the morning, 434 seed bombs were made. These will be transported to Dyke Island where they will be used for ongoing tussac plant restoration. #restoration #conservation #wildlife #landrestoration #tussac

  • The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is an international certification that recognises farming practices that ensure responsible animal husbandry, good land management and equitable social welfare. Approximately half of Falkland farms have registered with the scheme over the last two years and this confers a responsibility to monitor the condition and sustainability of native pastures. 🌱

Over the last couple of weeks Falklands Conservation along with the Department of Agriculture have run training workshops to assist farmers in gaining the plant and habitat monitoring skills to meet the requirements of the scheme. This utilises two new simple pasture and habitat scoring sheets that have been jointly developed for the Falkland Islands.πŸ‡«πŸ‡°

Falklands Conservation is grateful to everyone that has attended and to The Darwin Local Initiative for providing funding.
