Conservation Officer

Falklands Conservation has appointed Dr Pierre Pistorius as its Falkland Islands based Conservation Officer. He arrived in Stanley from South Africa on 22 November to take up his appointment. Until recently, Pierre was Research Officer on the World Heritage Site of Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, but previously spent almost three years on the sub-Antarctic Marion Island, where he gained experience working with albatrosses and penguins of the southern Indian Ocean. He has published widely on wildlife of the Southern Ocean. His experience of undertaking field work in difficult conditions and his enjoyment of working in remote areas should prove particularly appropriate in his new role.

Pierre says 'it has been a long-term dream to work on the Falkland Islands. I am looking forward to taking on the challenges of this position and contributing to the conservation and understanding of these amazing islands'

Pierre can be contacted at: pierre.pistorius@conservation.org.fk
