Home to five species of penguin, nearly half a million albatross, sea lions, elephant seals, and 14 vascular plants found nowhere else, the Falkland Islands are one of this planet’s greatest and least known wildlife spectacles!  Falklands Conservation (FC) is a membership-based organisation and registered charity that takes action to protect the flora and fauna of the Falkland Islands. Our key activities include scientific research, environmental education, wildlife monitoring, practical conservation projects, land management activities, and providing advice to government to sustain and protect the Falklands’ environment.

As the senior staff member, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the Trustees for overall performance and efficient management of the charity and its activities.  The successful applicant must ensure that FC’s activities are delivered within agreed financial and operational frameworks.

The CEO leads a team of staff and volunteers in delivering FC’s strategic plan; ensuring sound finances; directing all conservation actions and research programmes; and leading FC’s engagement with a wide range of organisations and individuals locally, regionally, and internationally.  The CEO will work with our UK based Executive Officer to nurture existing partnerships, and broaden the fundraising and membership base of the organisation.

A post-graduate qualification in applied sciences or business administration is required, together with an understanding of natural resources management, and a genuine interest in wildlife conservation.  Senior management experience including financial control, fundraising, and motivating a small team, preferably in the charity sector, is essential.  The successful candidate will be a natural diplomat and skilled communicator capable of developing and sustaining effective working relationships with stakeholders, including landowners, farmers, fishing companies and government.   

The post requires a dynamic and outgoing personality and the successful candidate will clearly demonstrate the ability to promote Falklands Conservation in the Falkland Islands and abroad.  The post is indeterminate, upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period, and subject to renewal of work permits by the Falklands Islands Customs and Immigration Department at two-yearly intervals.
