Falkland Islands Postage Stamps

On 6 October 1997 the Falkland Islands issued a set of 4 postage stamps under the theme "Species Under Threat". They depict:

• Striated Caracara the rare and vulnerable bird of prey (known locally as Johnny Rook)
• Southern Sea Lion, whose population is in major decline
• Felton's Flower, found in only a few locations on West Falkland
• local (or Zebra) Trout, which is struggling to compete with introduced fish species

Falklands Conservation is offering purchasers of the First Day Cover bearing all four stamps a free first year's membership (normally GBP15.00 for Ordinary Members).

In addition, limited numbers of Covers are available signed individually by the well-known British conservationists Sir David Attenborough, Bill Oddie and Professor David Bellamy.

The cost per Cover is GBP9.95 plus postage, subject to availability.

The Membership offer is open only to those who have not previously joined Falklands Conservation, is limited to one person per application and closes 30 September 1998.
