Falklands Conservation |
Register of Volunteers
|
Over the years volunteers on both a local and international basis have heavily supported Falklands Conservation. Many of our projects would not have been possible without this help and support. We are keen to find a way in which we can use the volunteer skills available to us in the islands more effectively. This would help us to increase our productivity and at the same time make volunteering a more satisfying experience.
In the past, we have used volunteers on an ad hoc basis. To improve this system, we are compiling a volunteer register that will give us a list of people we can contact when a need for volunteers comes up. This will help us to target projects for available volunteers, use people more efficiently and make sure that everyone who is interested gets an opportunity. Registering as a volunteer would not commit you in any way and we understand that people have busy lives. It would merely enable us to register your interest. Priority for field projects would inevitably be given to members and forms are being distributed with our January 2004 Newsletter. At the same time, we would be delighted to include anyone else on the register that would be interested in helping. Forms are available from the Falklands Conservation office at the Jetty Centre and on our web site. If you are already working with us on a regular basis, we apologise for the extra paperwork. It would, however, help us if you would still register, as it would enable us to pick up any other interests or skills that you may have. We are very aware of the number of people who help us as part of their working lives, lending us equipment, transporting supplies and passing on information. We are very dependent on your support and would welcome any feedback as to how we could improve our efficiency. Thank you to everyone who has supported Falklands Conservation in the past. We are a comparatively small organisation trying to protect our unique wildlife heritage within the Islands. At the same time, our dependence on the marine environment makes it essential for us to present conservation issues affecting the South Atlantic to the rest of the world. Our effectiveness in terms of gathering and collating information and undertaking much of the practical work which we need to tackle (from rat eradication to clearance of marine litter on beaches) would be greatly reduced without the help of our many volunteers and supporters. If you are interested in helping Falklands Conservation as a volunteer please click the registration form link below and follow the instructions. |
