The Falkland Islands hold two thirds of the world population of the Black-browed Albatross.

 

It has a globally important population of Southern Giant Petrels and a small number of breeding White-chinned Petrels. The Falkland Islands hold spectacular colonies of seabirds. This is recognised internationally through designation of Important Bird Areas throughout the archipelago. The following IBAs are breeding sites for black-browed albatross: Beauchêne Island (502kb PDF), Bird Island (505kb PDF), Jason Islands Group (733kb PDF), Keppel Island (460kb PDF), New Island Group (578kb PDF), Saunders Island (595kb PDF), West Point Island Group (665kb PDF), and Hope Harbour (603kb PDF).
