Centre Island Nature Reserve

Centre Island (3 Ha, 7 acres)
This nature reserve was purchased by Falklands Conservation in 1996.

It is a small, circular island lying in the centre of the entrance of Choiseul Sound. It is fairly high standing with a low reef-like shoreline. At low tide the reef exposes very dense kelp beds of Lessonia and Durvillea antarctica.

Five acres of the Island are covered in fairly dense tussac grass. It has not been subjected to stocking by sheep or cattle. The reserve supports a fairly large colony of Rock Shags.
